Capacity Building & Job Skills Training
Strengthening capacity, a core activity in the area of youth, seeks to help the government and agencies to meet their legal obligations to enhance the capacity of youth, through its livelihoods programs, SOYWEM also develops capacity: it helps youth, women and children to become self-sufficient in their places of work, education and economic and enhances the chances of working. Youth are often most directly affected by the armed conflicts which provoke their lives. They are at risk of forced recruitment into armies and militia groups and often experience a serious loss of self-esteem.
Capacity building activities are geared towards strengthening youth, laws and policies to ensure the proper handling of vulnerable people and youth issues, the reception and care of youth, the promotion of self-reliance of youth and the realization of their desire. But the task cannot be accomplished alone. It requires a partnership structure involving donor agency, humanitarian assistance and developmental agencies.
For an individual or a family to survive in today's competitive environment, some type of job skills training is required. SOYWEM recognizes this need and encourages people to learn to help themselves. Underprivileged individuals are financially supported when attending Job Skills Training classes implemented by SOYWEM while they may learn a trade from which they can earn stable income. This type of project assists families to break out of the perpetual poverty cycle and improve their overall quality of life.
Types of Job Skills Training include:
- Sewing
- Carpentry
- Masonry
